Autism Spectrum Disorder

Autism Spectrum Disorder

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a complex neurological and developmental disorder that can cause social, communication, and behavioral challenges. Symptoms of autism spectrum disorder typically appear by or before the age of three. Some signs of ASD include speech and language delays, repetitive behavior, sensory issues, not responding to name, and challenging behaviors (e.g., self-injurious behavior, tantrums, aggression, property destruction). Autism has been increasing 10-17% per year. Autism Spectrum Disorder is considered an umbrella for Asperger's syndrome, pervasive developmental disorder (PDD-NOS), childhood disintegrative disorder, Rett syndrome, and autistic disorder.
